Vice Minister of Home Affairs, John Wempi Wetipo conveyed several important messages to members of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP). The message was conveyed when he inaugurated the three members of MRP for the 2017-2022 term at Sasana Krida, Jayapura, Friday (30/9/2022).
Wempi emphasized that MRP need to deepen their understanding of Law Number 2 of 2021 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Papua Province. In addition, understanding these law regulations is also needed. With that, MRP won’t be trapped in the dynamics of practical politics, which will actually interfere with the performance of the MRP.
“Have the commitment to uphold national values (and) nationalism in the spirit of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” explained Wempi.
Not only that, continued Wempi, MRP members also need to improve coordination and cooperation with governors, regional representative institutions, community elements, and various other related parties. Through this effort, it is hoped that it will help the MRP to carry out their task more optimally.
He emphasized that the governor, the Papuan People’s Representative Council (DPRP), and the MRP must be able to cooperate and collaborate in realizing community welfare and equality with other provinces. Thus, the implementation of local government can run optimally according to its objectives.
On the other hand, Wempi said he was happy to be present at the inauguration of the remaining MRP members for the 2017-2022 term. As a native Papuan, Wempi’s presence represents the central government where he is currently mandated by the President to occupy the seat of Vice Minister of Home Affairs. Prior to serving as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, he was trusted by the President to become Vice Minister of Public Works and Public Housing.
