The Indonesian Government Science Society (MIPI) held a webinar entitled “Opportunities and Challenges after the Establishment of Three New Provinces”, Saturday (27/8/2022). This webinar was opened by the General Chairperson of MIPI, Bahtiar who is also the Director General of Politics and General Administration (Pol & PUM) of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Bahtiar explained, the formation of three new provinces in Papua was carried so that the development in Papua Province is even. With the formation of the three new provinces, it is hoped that it will help the central government’s task.

“With the formation of three new provinces in Papua, it can help the task of the central government to develop and raise the dignity of the Papuan Indigenous People (OAP) and all Indonesian people who live in Papua,” he said.

This webinar was attended by academic experts and bureaucrats, such as Muhammad Musa’ad as assistant for Development and Welfare for Papua, Velix Vernando Wanggai as Executive Secretary of Special Autonomous BPJ, and Siti Zuhro as Researcher of BRIN Center.

“Papua will have three new provinces, namely South Papua Province, Central Papua Province, Papua Mountains Province, thus makes Indonesia will have 37 provinces,” said Siti Zuhro.

Velix Wanggai wondered will the development acceleration could occur in the New Autonomous Region (DOB), seeing from the regional arrangement that there was a technocrat side in Regional Development.

“The contribution from the expansion of regions and provinces in Indonesia must have a direct impact on the transformation of the Indonesian economy in 2045,” he said.
