After the New Autonomous Region Law was passed and creates new three provinces in Papua, various kinds of refusal came one after another. One of the strongest rejection of this new law came from the Armed Criminal Group. The commitment of the Armed Criminal Group in rejecting the new law was shown by challenging the Armed Forces of Indonesia and the Indonesian National Police for war.
A short clip shows Commander of XI Regional Military of the Armed Criminal Group, Odiyai Dogiyai Yonatan Pigai, who strongly rejects any kinds of offer from Jakarta to Papua. This clip was originated from a @GooKoteka Twitter account on July 7th, 2022.
“We Papuans did not ask for Special Autonomy and New Autonomous Region. What we want is independence,” he said in the video.
Same thing was said by Commander of XXXI Regional Military of the Armed Criminal Group, Noukai Deiyai, that was posted by @KejoraMerdeka Twitter Account on July 8th, 2020.
“We strongly oppose any kinds of offer from Jakarta to Papua,” said Deiyai.
The official statements from the Armed Criminal Group Commanders came after their effort in commemorating the 51st Anniversary of their proclamation in Odiyai Dogiyai home base, July 1st, 2022.
Yonatan Pigai also threaten Jakarta and state officials in Papua who supports the Special Autonomy and New Autonomous Region Law. He said that his parties have prepared six battalions to challenge Armed Forces of Indonesia and the Indonesian National Police for war.
This act of extreme violence should be condemned. There will be more bloodshed and unnecessary victims from this senseless conflict. When they are doing their own agenda, not few the civilians or security forces who became the victims of their violence. Their act also caused a huge loss for the general society, one of them is their act of arson.
Other than that, their refusal for this new law only hamper the effort in accelerating the development and welfare of the Papuans.
A Legislative Member from Papua, Mesakh Mirin, stated that the passing of the New Autonomous Region of Papua, which is the Central Papua Bill, the South Papua Bill, and the Papua Pegunungan Bill could realize the hope of many Papuans who desires their rightful prosperity.
According to him, the New Autonomous Region in Papua could give a new access of development that could give a huge positive impact on the general community of Papua.
“The hope is that with this new provinces, it could give many benefits to the people. This is because so far, there are only two provinces in Papua’s land, Papua and West Papua, and this only makes the access from places to places much more difficult,” explained Mesakh Mirin to the reporters in Nusantara I Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (7/7/2022).
