Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) of Papua released 20 protected animals back to their habitat in Kuala Kencana Forest, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, in celebrating the 40th Foresters Service Day on March 16th, 2023, Tuesday (3/28).

Head of Conservation Section II of Timika, Bambang H. Lakuy in press conference says that the releases involving Indonesia Freeport Inc. and related departments and agencies.

According to Lakuy, the animals are three Dusky Iory, 15 Black-capped Iory, one Blyth’s hornbill, and one Stegonotus.

“Those animals were previously secured by Mozes Kilangin Airport officials on September 2022, and also from the people of Timika on July 2022, and also those from Indonesia Freeport Inc. employee,” said Lakuy.

He then continued that those animals have been in habituation in the transit enclosure of the Environmental Department of PT. Free port Indonesia

“We have thoroughly monitored the habit of the animals and we are sure they are ready to be released. Moreover, all the animals have been medically checked by the vet from Mimika District Animal Husbandry and Health Office,” he said.

Previously, the Head of KSDA Papua Main Office, A.G. Martana says that he appreciated all parties who supported those release.

“There are many parties involved who played a big role in securing these wild animals so that we hoped this synergy could continue build up more in the future,” he said.
