Foul Plans of Vanuatu in Helping Papua Gaining Independence

Vanuatu allegedly supports the Leader of Armed Criminal Group, Jefri Wenda, in doing his criminal acts in Papua.

Quoted from various media, Wenda admits that he has an official from Vanuatu who backs him up. The Archipelagic country in the Southwest of Pacific Ocean, specifically in the east of Australia, west of Fiji, south of Solomon, and northeast of New Caledonia, is known for its strong support of Papuan Independence.

This proven with an association called Vanuatu West Papua Independence Struggle Association (VWPISA) that exist in that country.

However, in their effort in causing a buzz by promoting human rights issue in Papua, their effort was once thwarted by young diplomats from Indonesia, Silvany Austin pasaribu.

According to her, Vanuatu is considered having an overly obsession over Papua and blatantly supports a revolution in Papua using the human rights issue in UN.

This was underlined by Silvany when responding the allegation of Vanuatu regarding the human rights issue in Papua.

“You are not the representative of Papuans, so stop fantasizing being one of them,” said Silvany Austin Pasaribu, who represents Indonesia when using the rights to answer at the General Assembly of UN.

Silvany also questioned how Vanuatu, who have not ratified international conventions on eliminating racial discrimination and also have not signed international treaties regarding the rights of economic, social, and cultural, is the one who “lectures” Indonesia regarding human rights issue in Papua.

“We urged the Vanuatu Government to first fulfill your human right responsibilities to your people and the world. And before you did it, please save your “lectures” for yourself,” stressed the diplomat who now works as the Second Secretary of Economy at the PTRI New York.
What has been conveyed by Silviany is in line with what Vanuatu did, who intervenes with other country’s internal issue.

The fact that should be our concern is that Vanuatu has few natural resources. This could be the base why Vanuatu tried to persuade Papua to have their independence so that they could get a taste, or even fully controls, the natural resources of Papua.
