Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin asked all Christians to continue spread kindness in Indonesia pluralism.

This was conveyed when he attended the 168th Gospel Day which was celebrated by Papuan Christians on Sunday (2/5).

“Today should be the reflective moment to our fellow Christians to practice the values of love, peace, and kindness in Indonesia’s pluralism,” says Ma’ruf, quoted from his statement in press conference, Sunday.

On that occassion, Ma’ruf Amin also says his gratitude and appreciation to religious leaders, church leaders, and Christians in Papua.

According to Papua, they played important role in establishing a moderate, tolerant, and harmonious environment in Papua.

“Let’s solidify our commitment, actions and good works in upholding peace and social harmony as our main capital to accelerate the development in Papua, because the challanges that we will face in the future is indeed not easy,” he said.

Other than giving his speech, Ma’ruf Amin also dispatch his Vice President Special Staff Gatot Prop Utomo to attend the ceremony of 168th Gospel Day.

Other than appreciating the church leaders for their significant positive impact on the society, Gatot also conveys government commitment in continuing their cultural-religious and humanist approach to realize a peaceful Papua.

This particular approach will indeed involve church leaders as the one of the main stakeholders in the development of Papua.

Furthermore, Gatot said that Ma’ruf Amin had ordered that for accelerating the development in Papua must involve the participation of Papuan church leaders and institutions.

“Therefore, we have built a strategic partnership with the Papuan Church institution, in this case the Papua/West Papua PGGP, to absorb the aspirations of the Papuan Church leaders so that they can make a positive contribution and accelerate welfare development in Papua,” said Gatot.
