The Admiral of Indonesian Military Force Yudo Margono claims Papua is safe in general, although there are disturbances in several areas of Papua.

The statement came after Admiral Yudo attended work meeting with Commission I of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) regarding situations in Papua to the main weapon system tool (alutsista) at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (2/2/2023).

Yudo says there are some disturbances such as school burnings to flight shootings in Papua.

“In general, it could be said that the situation is relatively safe. But there are some disturbances, like what happened yesterday in Oksibil school burning. Then, there were flight shooting when it was about to land,” says Yudo.

Yudo then explained shootings and burnings have been long existed in Papua. Thus, Indonesian Military is focused on their three approach, which are soft approach, hard approach and culture approach.

The military will also mapped the locations of Papua that are prone to disturbances.

“We have mapped out which regions where the security we could guarantee. Then there are some places where there are some disturbances, expected or not expected,” says Yudo.

Yudo says the militray have deployed their soldiers in prone areas to carried out the hard approach, but did not reveal the locations.
