Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Biak Numfor, Papua, prepared special personnel that are tasked to monitor the situation after the earthquake of Jayapura through Indonesia Early Warning Systems (InaTEWS).
Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency of Biak Numfor, Otto Wanggai says that the early detection tools of earthquake and tsunami will workds for 24 hours in BPBD Biak Office to provide a precise information about the disaster.
“This tools have the system of earthquake and tsunami early detection of earthquake and tsunami throughotu Indonesia to BPBD offices,” says Otto Wanggai.
He said that InaTEWS use seismometer and SeisComP3. Seismometer is tools for recording and assessing the strength of earthquake.
The data from seismometer would then be processed in a software to determine its epicenter, time, depth, and the magnitude of the earthquake.
“If there is an earthquake with the strength over 5 magnitude, Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency would send the info with the early detection alarm,” says Otto Wanggai.
Until now, BPBD is still coordinating with BMKG Biak in informing weather conditions.
InaTEWS is the only tsunami detection sytem in Indoneia and all of provinces in the country are required to use the system.
