Thousands of people panicked when another earthquake hit Jayapura city, and it even got worse when there was a misinformation regarding potential tsunami. Head of Jayapura Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Asep Khalid, states because of the spread of the misinformation, around 2,200 people left for evacuation at tall buildin or go to Dok IX Jayapura.
“Those who are evacuated are those who live near the shores, at North Jayapura District and South Jayapura District,” says Asep.
The city, since Monday midnight, were rocked by earthquakes until recently at 13:21 local time. Officials recorded there are 281 aftershocks in total.
Several places crowded with evacuee at Dok IX are the front office of Social Office, Market Office, and Education Office, and National Land Agency.
Currently, he says that his party are coordinating with Jayapura City Police in urging the poeple not to be easily swayed by issues and remind them to be always careful.
“Don’t easily got swayed by informations regarding tsunami. Instead, keep up with the official statements from Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency,” says head of BPBD Jayapura.
