The Vice Minister of Home Affairs John Wempi Wetipo led a ceremony to celebrate the 94th Youth Pledge from under the sea at Tanjung Kayu Batu, Jayapura, Papua, Friday (10/28). During the event, Wempi and the others were equipped with diving equipment. They first gathered up at the Papua Police Water and Air Police Directorate Pier, then headed to Tanjung Kayu Batu to unfurl the red and white flag under the sea.

In conveying the remarks of Minister of Youth and Sports, Wempi stated the celebration of Youth Pledge Day is part of an effort in remembering and studying the history, while also making it an inspiration and encouragement to realize a better Indonesia. The Youth Pledge also has given lessons on how to handle the differences in attitudes, ethnicity, religion, race and culture, and various interests, and instead make it become the source of strength.

“History have shown us that the decision made by the youths at that time have become a strong basic principle of the state in achieving its independence,” said Wempi in reading the remarks.

He continued that they also have established a strong vision for the independence of Indonesia through the 1928 Youth Pledge. Their amazing role in realizing giving the basic principle of Indonesia will always be remembered by the Indonesians.

Wempi said that the commemoration of Youth Pledge has an important meaning in it, because amidst the threat against the unity of Indonesia, there will always a hope in realizing the glory days of Indonesia. The theme “United in Building the State” in this year’s commemoration is considered of having a deep meaning that unity is everything and must be fought for.

“This is our commitment in continuing the struggle of realizing our ideals. All the best for us in building an independent, sovereign, united, just and prosperous Indonesia,” he explained.

He continued, that the current young generation are the ones who will play an integral role in the future. The current development in Indonesia is believed to be a determinant of Indonesia’s progress in the future. Therefore, the current generation need to put the value of unity above all else, while also valuing the diversity as a valuable gift in realizing the glory days of Indonesia.

“They are not only palying an important roles in building the nation’s resilience to realize the Glory of Indonesia in 2045, but also being the backbone for its timeless glory,” he added.

After reading the remarks, Wempi and the others went straight to Tanjung Kayu Batu. There they unfurl the Indonesian Flag under the sea. The underwater ceremony was participated by 63 divers equipped with diving equipment.
