Vice Minister of Home Affairs, John Wempi Wetipo, opened the Regional Coordination Meeting of Association of Indonesian Regency Regional House of Representatives (ADKASI) throughout Papua and the 2022 National Workshop. He said the event was a momentum to find solutions to various problems that occurred in Papua. The Papuan people must unite in order to build a better Papua.

“Let’s make it better, we have to unite. This forum is an amazing idea to gather all Papuans from Papua and West Papua. This becomes a place of reunion for all of us in uniting Papua for our better future,” said Wempi Wetipo in Ballroom Rylich Panorama Hotel Sorong, West Papua Province, Thursday (20/10).

He hoped that the legislative representatives of Papua can supervise and guide the government in Papua, including the governance of special autonomy of Papua. According to him, the special autonomy given to Papua is a privilege that has been given. It opens the door for Papua to develop and makes its own people the host of their own land.

“If you want to be the host of your own land, it cannot be realized by words alone, it must be done through actions, real actions. Not just the governor, regent, and mayor, but the Indonesian Legislative is also support us in making the Papuans their own host in their own lands,” he said firmly.

In line with those goals, Wempi continued that his party supports Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) as guideline for development manuals so that Papuans can become the hosts in their own country. He said that Papua has a lot of potential for land, forestry, and others. “We open the doors for Papua to develop,” he explained.

The Vice Minister of Home Affairs continued Laws and regulations that have been passed by the government established the foundations for the development of Papua while also protecting its people. This includes the issuance of Government Regulation (PP) Number 106 of 2021 concerning Authorities and Institutions for the Implementation of Papua Province Special Autonomy Policy. Then there is also Government Regulation Number 107 of 2021 concerning Reception, Management, Supervision, and Master Plan for the Acceleration of Development in the Implementation of Special Autonomy for the Papua Province.

“I ask legislative officials to support the local government. They are the ones who have the authority and space in developing their own regions. Let’s walk alongside together, so that we can unite our vision in prospering our people,” he concluded.
