In his visit to Papua, President Joko Widodo launched the Papua Football Academy (PFA) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura Regency, Wednesday, August 31, 2022. In his remarks, the President was very happy with the establishment of the academy so that Papua could breed more new football talents.

“Earlier, the President Director said the name Rully Nere, definitely we remember who he is right? We also remember Yohanes Auri, Aples Tecuari, Alexander Pulalo, Boaz Salossa, Elie Aiboy, Ramai Rumakiek, and Ricky Kambuaya,” said the President.

PFA is a school for Papuan kids to hone their talents in sports, especially soccer. According to the President, in the academy, the children will be trained with discipline on regular training by well-known coaches with a good reputation.

“Here, to breed new extraordinary players, the children will be trained in routine exercises with, accompanied by a coach who has a good reputation,” he said.

The President explained that the children who have qualified for the PFA are talented kids who have gone through a series of selection processes. For this reason, he hopes that the children can take advantage of their opportunity in studying football at PFA.

“Earlier, the President Director said that there were 477 children selected and now there are only 30 children left. These are the well-selected talents,”

Other than football, President Jokowi said that they still continue their formal education at school.

“Not only football, PFA also prepared formal education so that later they are expected to become football players who have a strong self-confidence, strong character, competitive and value the sportmanship, and also smart,” he added.

After delivering his remarks and launching the PFA, President Joko Widodo also played a soccer together with the PFA students. The president also seemed to have a discussion with the coach.
