Deputy Minister of Home Affairs John Wempi Wetipo emphasized that the implementation of the village area code was intended to enhance the welfare of the Indonesian people. This was conveyed by Wempi at the Submission of the Regional Code for the Administration of Village Government, Traditional Villages, and Sub-districts with the theme “The Dedication of Monitoring the Optimization of Service Approaches to the Community”.

The event was organized by the Directorate General of Village Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs at their HQ, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/11).

“One of our concern to the village is by the issuance of Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning Villages along with its implementation,” said Wempi.

He stressed that the law implicate the government commitment in establishing village as developed and prosperous government unit. This measure was taken by giving the authority in planning, implementing, to the utilization, and maintenance of development of the village.

In encouraging the implementation of Village Act to be more technical, The Ministry of Home Affairs has established Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 1 of 2017 concerning Village Arrangements which regulates the formation of villages, village mergers, status changes, and the abolition of villages. In addition, Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 45 of 2016 has also been issued concerning Guidelines for Establishing and Affirming Village Borders.

“Village Borders is one of the most important requirements in the process of arranging villages to be the reference of village locations and borders of legitimate village government and have complied with the provisions of the legislation in terms of technical and juridical aspects,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the purpose of arranging villages, as regulated in the Ministry of Home Affairs Regulation, are first is to realize the effectivity of village government. Second is to hasten up the prosperity improvement of village community. Third is to accelerate the quality of community service. Fourth is to enhance the quality of village arrangement. Fifts is to improve village competitiveness.

“I want a strong commitment from all Provincial Government and District Government to give their all in guiding and monitoring the village government,” concluded the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.
