Chairman of the Indonesian Government Science Society (MIPI) who is also the Director General of Politics and General Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bahtiar, symbolically handed over the red and white flag to the Regional Secretary of Papua Province, Ridwan Rumasukun. The flag was also handed over to the General Chairperson of MIPI Papua who is also the Assistant for the Economy and Welfare of the Regional Secretary of the Papua Province, Muhammad Musa’ad.

The ceremonial handover of the flag took place at the Inauguration of the 2022-2026 Regional Management of MIPI Papua Province at the Horison Ultima Entrop Jayapura Hotel, Saturday (6/8/2022).

The handover of the flag was carried out to support the distribution of 10 million Indonesian flags in Papua. This step was taken to celebrate the 77th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The flags will later be distributed to the general public, and will be installed in various strategic places.

“Hopefully this distribution of 10 million of Indonesian flags will run smoothly,” said Bahtiar.

Bahtiar explained that the movement initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs would be held throughout Indonesia. Therefore, the Ministry of Home Affairs appealed to all regions to support the movement. This is as stated in letter number 003.1/4397/SJ which was signed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Suhajar Diantoro.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Bahtiar, stated that Bahtiar will launched this movement in Merauke Regency, Papua, on August 12th, 2022. Then will launched this movement in Banda Aceh on August 13th August, which then continues in Surabaya, East Java, on August 14th, 2022.

Bahtiar explained that this year’s celebration of the Republic of Indonesia Independence will carries the theme of “Recover Faster, Rise Stronger”. With this theme, it is hoped that the celebration will become the opportunity for the people to rise together, especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“For two years we have not been able to meet due to Covid-19. Now we have to rise again, and could be started with the simple thing, such as giving our prideful flags to the community,” said Bahtiar.
