According to the reports from Kompas.id, the number of victims who died due to attacks by Armed Criminal Groups in Nogolait Village, Kenyam District, the capital of Nduga Regency, Papua, increased from 9 to 10 people on Saturday (16/7/2022). The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) declared the actions of the perpetrators as extraordinary crimes.
Quoted from Kompas.id, the head of the Komnas HAM Representative for Papua Region, Frits Ramandey, said the brutal action against residents in Nogolait Village was an inhumane act and happened too many times. This group is considered so cruel because it targets innocent lives.
It is known that the attack led, by Egianus Kogoya, left 10 people dead and two others dying. Based on data from the Nduga Police, the attack on 12 victims occurred in Nogolait Village at 09.15 WIT.
The identities of the victims were Yulius Watu, Hubertus Goti, Daeng Marannu, Taufan Amir, Johan, Alexander Faumawan, Yuda Nurusinga, Mahmud, Sirajudin and Eliaser Sarbaye. Eliaser is known to be a church leader.
Meanwhile, the identities of the injured victims are Sudirman and Hasdin. Currently, the victims have been evacuated to Mimika Regency, while Eliaser’s body is buried in Kenyam.
“We conveys our condolences to all the families of the victims. This incident is truly tragic. The perpetrators must present their reasons for carrying out such a heinous act,” Frits said.
Frits also stated that the security forces must be in Nduga as soon as possible and carry out measured law enforcement efforts. The aim is to prevent this action from happening again and to stabilize the security situation in Nduga.
Human rights activist and also the Executive Director of the Papuan Justice and Human Integrity Foundation, Theo Hesegem, condemned the Armed Criminal Group action that attacked 12 civilians in Nduga. He also argued that those actions were beyond reason because it attacked innocent unarmed people.
“The Papuan Justice and Human Integrity Foundation expresses its deep condolences to the relatives of the 10 victims. The actions of this group have caused international public support for them in the struggle for the Papuan referendum to continue to decline drastically,” said Theo.
Meanwhile, Director General of Criminal Investigation, Commissioner Faisal Ramadhani, stated that the security status in Kenyam, the capital of Nduga, was set to be on alert. The Cartenz Peace Law Enforcement Task Force has been dispatched to Nduga to confront the group.
“Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri has instructed the Law Enforcement Task Force team to carry out strict and measurable law enforcement efforts in Kenyam. The team will try to secure the area,” he said.
A total of 45 cases of KKB attacks have occurred from January to July 16, 2022. These cases occurred in Yahukimo Regency, Intan Jaya Regency, Puncak Regency, Paniai Regency, Puncak Jaya Regency, Nduga Regency, Bintang Mountains Regency, Yalimo Regency, Jayawijaya Regency, and Deiyai District.
In this case, there are seven Indonesian Armed Forces who died and other 12 were injured, while from the National Police side, there is one member who died and two injured due to the attacks of the Armed Criminal Group. There are also 27 innocent people died and 6 other who were injured.
