papuachroncile.co – Jakarta. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer appreciates Indonesia’s role in the peacekeeping mission at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

This was stated in a joint statement released after the meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and PM Keir Starmer in London, England, as published by the British Prime Minister’s Office via the www.gov.uk website, Thursday (11/21/2024) and quoted in Jakarta, Friday.

“The UK expressed its appreciation for Indonesia’s role in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission,” the statement read.

Indonesia and the UK conveyed an appeal to ease the conflict in Lebanon and urged a peaceful and diplomatic resolution.

Both countries underlined the urgent need to ensure the protection of UNIFIL personnel and the inviolability of UN locations.

In addition to the Lebanon issue, at the meeting Prabowo and Starmer also discussed the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, Palestine.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, the two leaders were of the view that peace must be committed to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity and be built on inclusive engagement and dialogue between all parties.

Meanwhile, regarding Gaza, the two leaders called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, the rapid and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, compliance with international humanitarian law and de-escalation on all sides.
