The government of Jayawijaya provides logistics to the landslide victims of Elarek, Walaik district, Papua Mountains Province, Friday (5/11).

The regent of Jayawijaya John Banua to ANTARA, states that the logistics are food supplies and equipments to build tents.

“On Friday morning (5/12) I have seen the village by going through the mud and met with the people to gave our support,” he said when contacted from Merauke.

He says there are many damaged buildings including churches, village hall, houses, and also fields.

Currently, those whose house was damaged have been evacuated to the other houses that survives the landslide unscathed.

The landslide on Wednesday night (5/10) caused three people died. Those who died are Inan Murib (25), Arin Elopere (20), and Tius Murib (4).

Six others were injured, three among them were evacuated to Wamena and now are being treated at Wamena Hospital. Those who are being treated in the hospital are Yotam Yalipele (15), Kasper Elopere (11), and Alison Elopere (7).

When asked about his travel to Elarek, Banua says that to reach that village, he had to walk for about two hours from Yelaik village.

“It is true there haven’t any land access to the village,” adds Banua
