The Papua Police Chief’s Office House caught fire on Tuesday (17/1/2023) morning. The fire is thought to have started in the main building and spread to most of the buildings.

The Head of Papua Public Relations, Commissioner Ignatius Benny Adi Prabowo, says that the security guard of the residence heard someone yelled there was a fire from inside the building.

“When it happened, witness said that he’s in guard duty when he heard someone screamed from inside that there was a smoke,” said Benny in his written statement, Tuesday (1/17).

Hearing the scream, the security guard immediately went inside. He said he saw the source of the fire from the left corner in the back building.

“After the initial smoke, then there was a loud explosion from the building, followed by the fire,” said Benny.

Fire fighters immediately called and six fire trucks arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.

The fire that went big could be extinguished after an hour.

“Currently, police put police line on the building. No fatalities on this incident and we are still looking at the cause,” he said. He then continued that Jayapura Police is still examining the witnesses and investigate the crime scene to find out what had truly happened.
