The Indonesian Police Chief (Kapolri), firmly stated that the Indonesian Military Force (TNI) and Indonesian Police (Polri) will cooperate in monitoring all government policies in Papua. TNI-Polri have coordinated and communicated with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), to discuss and find out any issues regarding the development of Papua infrastructure.

According to Kapolri, he is optimistic that the role of TNI-Polri in ensuring the development of Papua is going to run optimally.

“Because this is part of the program in improving the welfare of Papuans. In supporting this program, TNI-Polri is present in ensuring that everything would goes well,” says Sigit during his and Yudo instructions to TNI-Polri troops in Papua, Monday (1/9).

The government policies related to Papua development includes tourist destinations development, city area development, and agricultural development. Meanwhile, the major projects includes construction of Special Economic Zones (KEK), airport development, and several programs related to expansion, as well as special assignment of health workers in Papua and West Papua.

Sigit says that in supporting those policies, police will do two approaches which is soft approach and hard approach. The soft approach is intended for education, socialization, and improving the educational sector in area.

“Thus the transfer knowledge would go faster to improve the Papuans related with the development program that has been carried out,” said Sigit in front of TNI-Polri troops.

Moreover, Sigit emphasized, TNI-Polri would also do a hard approach to all parties whose desire is to halt or thwart the goverment programs.

“Regarding security disturbances, it is indeed because of the Armed Criminal Group who continuously attacks the people, which caused the development program got halted. This requires firm and precise legal measures in the field. Our hope is that everything would went proportionally,” says Sigit.

In upholding the law, Sigit says that they have always coordinated and comunicated with the National Human Rights Commission, both in central and in Papua. This was to ensure that legal measures are taken proportionally by security personnel in the field.

“Obviously, we will continue our effort in legal enforcement that we did to be precise and able to give positive impact to the wider community. We truly want our security measures is precise to prevent any unnecessary victims,” said Sigit.

At the same occassion, the Commander of TNI Admiral Yudo Margono, says that the visit and the aspirations that he had heard in Papua will be the evaluation and suggestions for the government in determining the next step for Papua.

He said firmly that TNI-Polri will do their best and professional in supporting goverment policies in Papua. “This program requires the support from TNI-Polri to ensure the security of its workers and other infrastructures,” said Yudo.
