Pacific Conference of Churches (PCC) called a boycot for products and programs from Indonesia unless Central Government would permit the visit of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to Papua.

PCC stated that this step must be taken to investigates human right violations that have allegedly been continuously happening in Papua – including murder, unlawful killings, and systematic violance by the police and military.

Pastor James Bhagwan, who is the Secretary General of PCC, says that the boycot is a response for the lack of government actions in solving and respecting humanitarian issues in Papua. They demand the government’s promise back in four years ago who says their commitment in addressing the violance in Papua.

James says that they (Indonesia) knows that Pacific is a big market for their products. PCC says that with their statement, this shows that PCC stands with Papuans, and will fight for their justice.

The 41st Universal Periodicals of the United Nations Human Rights Council, last month brought up humanitarian issues in West Papua, and also voiced the visit of UN Human Rights to West Papua.

The Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs for human rights, Achsanul Habib, have said firmly that Papua is one integral part of Indonesia according to Internation law, and admits that the region is under its highest challanges in security matters.

Papua Observatorium Coordinator for Human Rights (POHR) says dialogue to end the conflicts in Papua would not happen without the involvement of credible and independent international institutions.

He further says that he is not positive that conflicts will end in the near future.

“I am pessimistic that measures taken by the National Human Right Commission to facilitate Jakarta-Papua dialogue to succeed. For me, it looks rushed and forced, like there are some things that are hidden or it was just for show.”

Syufi says the peace dialogue of Jakarta-Papua is difficult to be realized as the ones who are in quarrel are Indonesian Central Government and West Papua separatist group
