Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, John Wempi Wetipo said Papuans have the opportunity to lead the country and realize the ideals of the nation appropriately. This statement was conveyed when he was giving a public lecture to the staff of the Institute for Domestic Administration (IPDN) of Papua in Jayapura, Friday (15/7/2022).
His statement is based on his own experience due to him being the first person from Papua who was entrusted to be the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.
“There is no difference in us being Indonesian, it’s only the opportunities that are different. If Papuans were given the chance to lead the country, I am sure we can lead this country appropriately,” he said.
Moreover, to encourage the leadership in Papua, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, who has talked with the IPDN Chancellor, projects the involvement of IPDN graduates in developing Papua. Purna praja will work as State Civil Apparatus (ASN) who are expected to be fully dedicated in developing Papua. Thus, by developing Papua, indirectly they are also developing a better Indonesia.
“The point is how to build a prosperous Papua, so there will be no longer Papuans who died in vain in their own land. We have to focus in realizing the dreams of the nation to better the welfare of its people,” stressed Wempi.
