papuachronicle.co – Jayapura. A total of 21 people injured in the recent clashes between supporters of rival candidates in Puncak Jaya in Central Papua are receiving treatment at hospitals in Jayapura, Papua.

The Head of Central Papua Health Agency, Silvanus Sumule, said on Sunday (9/2/2025) that the injured are being treated at RSUD Dok 2 Jayapura regional hospital, RSUD Abepura regional hospital, and RS Dian Harapan regional hospital in Waena.

One patient was transferred to a hospital in Makassar, South Sulawesi due to the severity of their injuries.
“In total, 143 people were affected by the violence, with one fatality reported,” Sumule said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Victims’ medical costs are covered by the regional “Otsus Sehat” health card, as the treatment is not included in BPJS Kesehatan coverage. The agency has also requested financial support from the Ministry of Health.

The 5 February 2025 clashes erupted between supporters of candidates of a local election, leaving 32 houses burned and raising concerns over election-related tensions in the region.
