Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had clearly placed Papua as one of the main focuses in the development agenda in Indonesia.
The Ministry of Home Affairs was also encouraged to take special steps to resolve the problems that still occur in the Land of Papua
He explained that the government pays great attention to the Papuan people. This is reflected in the significant budget allocation.
Based on the results of monitoring and evaluation, from 2002 to 2021, the budget for Papua has reached IDR 100 trillion.
“The special autonomy fund is around IDR 75 trillion, and the remaining additional infrastructure funds are around IDR 24 trillion,” he said.
The distribution of the budget, he continued, has had a positive impact, especially in increasing the Papuan Human Development Index (HDI).
As of now, Papua’s HDI is no longer in the low category, but has increased into the medium category.
“HDI grew because of affirmative action and HDI grew because of the very large budget allocation,” added Bima.
Bima also saw the natural potential in the six provinces in Papua as extraordinary. According to him, this can support the affirmative action policy that is implemented.
Furthermore, Bima said that President Prabowo targeted national economic growth to reach 8 percent.
This is important as a step to place Indonesia in the top five world economies in 2045.
Therefore, to realize it, each province needs to contribute significantly to economic growth.
He emphasized that if the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) is not absorbed properly, then the economic growth of a region will not increase.
Therefore, a transparency and accountability system is an urgent need in the implementation of regional government.
