The vote recapitulation calculation for the Election of Governor and Deputy Governor candidates in the 2024 Pilkada in Central Papua Province is almost complete by the General Election Commission (KPU). The election of the governor and deputy governor of Central Papua itself was participated by four candidate pairs, namely Wempi-Agustinus, Natalis-Titus, Meki-Deinas, and Willem-Aloisius.

Of the four pairs, the pair Meki Wanipa and Deinas Geley are currently ahead in the vote recapitulation for the Central Papua regional head election.

So, who are Meki Nawipa and Deinas Geley actually? And why did many people choose them to become Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Papua?

Meki Nawipa is a man born on May 6th, 1978 in Enarotali and is known as a pilot and has a plane that is placed at Sentani Airport. Meki studied at Deraya Flying School since 2000.

He also continued his aviation education at the Bible College of Victoria (BCV) Australia until 2007 and began his pilot career in 2008 by serving remote areas.

Meanwhile, in his political career, Meki Nawipa has served as the Regent of Paniai since 2018 and this year is running as a gubernatorial candidate in the 2024 Pilkada in Central Papua.

Then, Meki Nawipa’s partner, Dinas Geley, is a man born on December 16, 1975 in Paniai and is known to be active in organizations. The 49-year-old man was the Chairman of the Indonesian National Construction Implementation Association (Gapensi) of Puncak Jaya Regency in 2011-2016.

He is also known as the former Head of Management and Organization of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Papua Province from 2014 to 2020. Before entering politics, he was a member of the Puncak Jaya Regency KPU from 2004 to 2011.

Deinas also held the position of Commissioner at PT Percetakan Rakyat Papua in 2012 and Director of PD Irian Bhakti in 2014. However, he resigned as director and is currently running as Deputy Governor with Meki Nawipa.
