Head of Papua Mountains Police, Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Dafi Bustomi says that the worker of telecommunication tower or Base Trasceiver Station (BTS) who were held hostage by the Armed Criminal Group in Okbab District have been successfully evacuated to Oksibil on Monday (5/15) morning.

Two people have been wounded and now are being treated at Oksibil Hospital.

“Four people are now in Oksibil, two are being treated in a hospital,” says Bustomi when contacted through phone on Monday.

Before being evacuated to Oksibil, the victims have been secured by local religious leaders and brought to church. The wounded also have been treated in Okbab Medical Center.

“The one who picks them up are from the joint security team, local government and security forces,” says Bastomi.

It is not clear whether the victims will be evacuated to Jayapura later or not. Bastomi says those will be decided after the wounded have been treated from the hospital.

“We will see how it is first,” said Bastomi.

Previously, it was reported that there was a kidnapping in Okbab District, Papua Mountains, after the workers of Infrastruktur Bisnis Sejahtera Inc. along with the head of Information Commission Office of Bintang Mountains have landed in Okbab Airstrip, Friday morning.

When they were landed, there are several people came towards them, some armed with sharp weapon, attack and threatening them. Three workers have been wounded and one of them run away. After that, the criminal held hostage the two worker and asked for Rp500 million.
