City Police of Puncak Jaya implores Muslims to do Taraweh prayer in home instead in light of shootings incident in Ilu District, Central Papua Province, that killed two Military and Police personnel, Monday (3/27).

“It is true that the police implores the community of Ilu District to do Taraweh prayer in home to avoid any security disturbances,” says Papua Head of Public Relations, Ignatius Benny Prabowo to ANTARA media crews, Jayapura, Sunday.

Based on the report, there was a shooting to Military and Police members who were sheltering near Al Alamiah Mosque due to rain. Suddenly, those members were ambushed and three of them suffered a gun wound. One of them managed to survive while the other two are not so lucky.

The two fallen soldiers are a member of Ilu Military Sector Command, Second Sergeant Risawar and member of Ilu Sector Police, Second Police Brigadier Mesar Indey.

According to Benny, the shooting happened outside the mosque and says no civilians got hurt. He continues that the four perpetrators ran away right after they managed to shoot three security officers.

“From the four perpetrators, it was reported that two of them are the one who shoot the officers,” he said.

Benny says that his party have not concluded from which rebel group are the four perpetrators from because there are several rebel groups in that area. He also stated the Criminal Investigation Unit of Puncak Jaya City Police have conducted an investigation on the location.
