The Jayapura Earth Hour community have campaigning energy savings by switching off the lights for an hour in Imbi Part, North Jayapura District, Monday (3/27).
The coordinator of Jayapura Earth Hour, Ranum Mansawan, says the one-hour switch off, from 20:30 – 21:30 was held on Saturday (3/25) at Imbi Park that involved the Deaf Community of Jayapura who performed a song with their sign language.
“There are also Menoken Community, Jayapura 1 Junior High School students, and also from hotels who join us in campaigning energy savings,” said Ranum.
According to Ranum, the switch off is a yearly event that held by Earth Hour community. For 2023, they aim to invite the community to give a rest for Earth, even just for an hour.
She implies the Earth as a worker who had worked hard for a year and it deserves a rest.
“So that with this act of switching off the light for an our, we want to invite the community to give the Earth time to rest,” says Ranum.
Head of Tourism Office of Jayapura City, Matias Mano, says he very much appreciates the campaign of switching off the light for an hour for the Earth.
“As we all know, Earth has grow old and the technology advancement and physical buildings have done their part to greenhouse gases who certainly disrupt the natural environment. Thus, we really do consider this active as the positive one,” he said.
