Vice Minister of Home Affairs John Wempi Wetipo encouraged the four New Autonomous Regions in Papua to use the allocated budget to accelerate their development. This was conveyed by Wempi before the media crew after the Coordination Meeting and Dissemination of Regional Financial Management Regulations for Provinces and Regencies throughout Papua Mountains at the Suni Abepura Hotel, Jayapura, Papua, Friday (24/3/2023).

“Because our goal during the transition of this government is for the development of government infrastructure,” he said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, says Wempi, basically have approved the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget in the four new autonomous regions to be used for the implementation of development in each province, both in Papua Mountain, South Papua, Central Papua, and Southwest Papua.

Furthermore, Wempi explained, apart from building government infrastructure, the four new autonomous regions in Papua are also responsible for overseeing the 2024 General Elections, both on February 14 and November 27, 2024.

“And this would be the job and the responsible of the government officials,” he said.

Wempi hopes that the Ministry can support the local government in overseeing the 2024 General Elections. Thus, elections in the area can proceeded as expected.

On the other hand, Wempi adds that the Ministry continues to ensure that community services in Papua run smoothly. He firmly states that conflict is not a reason to ignore their service to the community.

“Because we want to ensure these officials that we pushed are in doing their job, accommodate, while also overseeing the government during the transition until the regent elections in each region,” he concluded.
