Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri says that there are 19 provocators arrested by the police during the tumult of Governor Lukas Enembe arrest.

From the 19 who were arrested on Tuesday (1/10), one of them was passed away in Yowari Hospital and the other 18 were currently examined by the investigators.

“They were arrested because of assaulting police officer and provoking the others, both to the people around Kotaraja Mobile Brigade HQ, Jayapura City, to even in Sentani,” says Fakhiri in his official statement during a virtual press conference in Timika, Wednesday January 11th, 2023.

He explained that the police is still investigating the two locations, in around Jayapura City Police, and Jayapura Police in Sentani. Currently, he said that the investigators found that there are two people who attacked police officers in Jayapura City, and dozen others in Jayapura Police in Sentani.

There are several incident during the arrest of Lukas Enembe by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday (1/10), both in Kotaraja Mobile Brigade HQ and around Sentani Airport.

From the 19 that were arrested, one has passed away in hospital due to the gun wound and 16 others were injured. Those who were injured have been treated in the hospital.

“I’m still waiting for the full report because there are one who had passed away. That’s why I have ordered the Division of Profession and Security to investigate the matters whether our personnel have carried out their duty in the field according to SOP or not. If not, then we will process the issue according to law,” said Fakhiri firmly.

He also appealed to the people of Papua to stay calm and not get swayed by hoax. “Let us jointly maintain the peace in Papua,” he said.
