The Indonesian National Police (Polri) decided to extend the operation of Cartenz Peace for six months, which will ended in June 30th, 2023. The head of Public Relations Division of Polri stated that the extension is based on the evaluation done by the institution.
“Cartenz Peace Ops officially will be extended and currently we are shifting our personnel,” says Dedi, Friday December 30th, 2022. The operation which began in January 17th, 2022, initially should have ended in December 31st, 2022
This operation prioritized preventive and persuasive approach to the community of Papua. This operation replaced the Papuan operation with the codename of Nemangkawi Operation.
The Cartenz Peace Ops Involved 1,925 personnel from Papua Regional Police, assisted by the Main Headquarters of Polri, and 101 personnel from the Indonesian Military Army.
The operation is focused only in five regions, which are Bintang Mountains Regency, Yahukimo Regency, Nguda Regency, Intan Jaya Regency, and Ilaga Regency.
The operations focused on community development, intelligence, and community relations, supported by law enforcement task force.
The involvement of law enforcement task force is part of anticipation measures in case of criminal actions or community disturbances by Armed Criminal Group.
