A shootout between the joint TNI-Polri troops and the Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB) occurred in the residential area of Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of Intan Jaya in Mambai Village, Intan Jaya Regency, Tuesday, August 16, 2020.
The shootout was triggered by the group’s anarchist actions who set fire several government facilities in that location.
The Commander of Military Area Command 173/PVB, Brigadier General of Indonesian Army, Taufan Gustoro stated that at the beginning they saw a thick smoke and heard a gunfire in the residential area of Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of Intan Jaya in Mambai Village at 10.15 WIT.
The joint security forces then immediately scoured and investigate the location to find out what had really happened.
“Then the forces involved in a shootout between the Armed Criminal Group. The shootout is just over this noon,” said Taufan.
According to the initial report, there was no victim in this incident. However, the personnel are implored to be on guard for any potential next wave of attack
