The Community Development Unit of Mimika Police came to MTS Plus Al Islah Timika to give the students a national insight on Thursday, 21st July, 2022.
On this visit, Brigadier Nixon Mehue S.H., gave the students a chance to discuss about national insight during the School Environment Orientation Period (MPLS) 2022/2023.
In his presentation, Nixon said that Indonesian people should look upon itself and its suroundings based on Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, Bhineka Tunggal Ika, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. That way, the nationalism inside would grow even stronger.
According to Nixon, nationalism is neccessary to keep and maintain the unity of the state. He stated that Indonesia would never reach its independence if the people is not united in achieving it. Nixon said that one of the reasons why Indonesia was colonized for hundreds of years was because there was no united sense of nationalism. At that time, Indonesia was divided into many regions and each region was still thinking about themselves. Divided, the people of Indonesia at that time is no match against the colonizer.
“And when the people of Indonesia came together as one, gradually we are able to fought back against the colonizer, and in the end, we finally able to reach our independence in 1945,” said Nixon.
He invited the students to uphold the nationalism inside them by respecting the symbol of the nation, sing the national anthem solemnly and seriously, memorizing Pancasila and Indonesia’s national hero, participatin in flag ceremony, and obeying the rules wherever you are, including in school.
Moreover, Brigadier Nixon asked the students to be tolerant and respect each other as human beings without looking at their background.
“After this, I want you to applied this lesson in your daily lives. This small things could really change us for the better,” he told the students in his closing statement.
