Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Fauzan said that 850 joint military-police personnel were on standby to secure the customary peace ceremony of two community groups in Mulia, Puncak Jaya, Central Papua Province, who are in conflict over the regional elections.
“It is true that 850 members were on standby to secure the peace ceremony carried out according to community tradition, namely splitting ‘Doli’ wood,” said Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief Ahmad Fauzan on Sunday (5/11/2025.
The two groups, supporting two different Puncak Jaya Regent and Deputy Regent candidates, agreed to make peace through traditional ceremony of splitting wood.
Ahmad Fauzan said that the peace procession between the two warring groups would be attended by the Governor, the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) and the Central Papua Regional Police Chief and the Papua Regional Military Commander 173/PVB.
Currently the security situation is relatively conducive and to provide a sense of security, security personnel are conducting dialogic patrols.
“While conducting patrols, we continuously ask and invite the community to participate in maintaining security and not to attack each other,” he said.
