The fire that burns the official house of Papua Police Chief at Trikota street, North Jayapura, Jayapura, on Tuesday (1/17) morning was supected be because of short circuit.

Head of Jayapura Firefighters, Margaretha Veronita Kirana said that the initial cause of the fire is short circuit from one of the rooms. “We are still investigating further for the cause,” said Margaretha.

Official says that fire starts at 04:57 and quickly spreads around the buildings. The fire only able to be extinguished at 06:56 or two hours after the initial fire.

There are seven water canon trucks sent to the location, three of which are the Jayapura City fire trucks assisted by a tanker that supplies water. “There are no fatalities and we still don’t know how much loss from this fire,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Papua Police Public Relations, Commissioner Ignatius Benny Prabowo, explained that from the report he received, the security guard on duty heard a scream and immediately went to the house and saw the fire in the left corner of the back building, which already covered in smoke. Not long after, there was an explosion along with fire.

The security guard and the other are trying to extinguish the fire with whatever they can find and calls Papua Police HQ for reinforcement.

“When it happened, Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri along with his family are not in the house,” said Commissioner Benny.

He says the investigators of Jayapura Criminal Investigation Unit is still gathering all the info related to the incident. “There are no fatalities on the incident,” he said.
