After rocked by an earthquake with the strength of 4,9 magnitude on Monday morning, 03:24 local time, government states that until Tuesday 07:50, there are 145 aftershocks recorded.
Head of Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency V of Jayapura, Yustus Rumakiek, states that the aftershocks still continues even at 07:40 Tuesday in Jayapura City. He states that that aftershock had the strength of 4 magnitude. The aftershock could be felt by the citizens of Jayapura. Rumakiek said that if you are at home when the aftershock happened, it was just like when a huge truck passed in front of the house
His party revealed that the epicenter of the earthquake is in land, at 13 km northeast of Jayapura with the depth of 8 km.
Government appeals the community not to panic and stay calm. They also stressed the citizens not to be swayed by hoaxes or information with shady sources.
“Stay away from the damaged buildings and ensure your place is safe from earthquake, or see if there are any damages from the quake that could’ve endanger you and your family,” says Rumakiek.
Other than houses, shopping centers could also be seen have some cracks due the quake, one of which are at the Jayapura Mall. Same goes to the Sunny Abepura Hotel, who reported that their walls is cracked and glasses shattered at the ground floor because of the earthquake.
