papuachronicle.co – Jakarta. Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie encouraged college graduates to be ready to face various challenges in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
“We live in an era marked by major changes. Artificial Intelligence will eliminate 92 million types of jobs, but at the same time create 97 million new jobs. The key is how we prepare ourselves with new skills, so we can seize opportunities, not be crushed by change,” said Stella on Thursday (9/11/2025).
Stella emphasized that graduation from higher education is not the end, but the beginning of a new journey in facing a world that is moving rapidly due to technological disruption.
Mastery of technology alone, according to her, is not enough to compete in the future. Education must foster character, empathy, and high-level thinking skills that cannot be replicated by machines.
She emphasized that higher education does not stop at mastering technical aspects, but must be equipped with character, empathy, creativity, critical thinking skills, and collaboration skills.
According to her, these non-technical skills are what will differentiate humans from machines.
“AI does bring real disruption, but with the right intervention, we can ensure the benefits outweigh the risks. The younger generation must be ready to face change with an open attitude, adaptability, and a commitment to lifelong learning,” emphasized Stella.
