Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin gave his remarks on the demands of Armed Criminal Group who took hostage Susi Air pilot Captain Philip Mark Martens, Friday (17/2). The group demands independence for the pilot.
The Vice President stressed that its irrelevant, considering that the demand only came from one group. “It’s impossible to compansate with independence, that irrelevant. It is not relevant,” says Ma’ruf Amin at North Tapanuli, Wednesday (15/2).
He then explains tha security issue in Papua cannot be generalized because from the six provinces of Papua, five of them are safe.
“The issue of Papua is no longer the problem of Papua in general now. Now Papua is divided into six provinces, and there are no issues in other provinces but Papua Mountains,” he says.
“Even other provinces asked to be split into more provinces. In West Papua they asked for another one province, same goes to Papua province. This means that there are no issues in other provinces,” he said.
He then stressed that if there are any individual or a group who carried out offensive actions or operations, those actions cannot be generalized into just “Papua”. “If there are any groups saying that their actions represent Papua, that is not true at all,” he said.
To secure the stability of Papua, there needs to be active defensive actions from law enforcers and security apparatus. “Not offensive, but defensive and active on it,” he said.
He believed that security is the main key in developing Papua. Thus, he asked all ranks of security forces to monitor and secure a safe and peaceful situation in Papua.
