v5,4 earthquake rocked Jayapura City, Papua adn reportedly several buildings suffers some damage and some even washed to the sea, Thursday (2/9).
“According to the information that we got, there is a report says that there are several buildings damaged in Jayapura City. There are also a cafe that reportedly collapsed and went to the sea,” says Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency of Jayapura, Asep Khalid, when confirmed by detikcom, Thursday (9/2).
Asep says Mall Jayapura reportedly have some damages. Even there was a smoke coming out of it, but officials still couldn’t conclude if it was coming out of fire or not.
Moreover Asep says that his party is still working on gathering the data of the earthquake. Officials have been dispatched to monitor the situation.
“Other than that, we implore all employees who work in the mayor’s office (to avoid the building). Currently, we haven’t find any casualties because of the earthquake,” he said.
Previously, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announce through their official Twitter account @infoBMKG that there was an earthquake in Jayapura with the magnitude of 5,4 with the epicenter at 2.60 South Latitude and 140.66 East Longitude, 9 kilometers southwest of Jayapura City with a depth of 10 kilometers.
