papuachronicle.co – Jakarta. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian instructed the construction of 2,200 in Papua Mountains to be established according to the instruction of President Prabowo Subianto.
The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that the designation of Papua Mountains as a priority location for housing development compared to other regions in Papua was based on government data and to ensure fairness.
This province has the highest poverty rate in Indonesia, at 30.03 percent, and the largest housing backlog in Greater Papua. Based on this, the President ordered the construction of 2,200 houses in Highlands Papua.
“Papua Mountains has the highest poverty rate percentage in Indonesia, at 30.03 percent. Secondly, the population is the most likely to lack [a decent home]—that’s the backlog,” he said.
He added that this development represents a concrete manifestation of the state’s presence for communities in areas with high levels of vulnerability, both in terms of economics, security, and affordability of building materials.
Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that this program must be implemented solidly to ensure its implementation follows regulations.
As a follow-up, a follow-up meeting was held, led by Vice Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk and Director General of Governance and Risk Management at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Azis Andriansyah. Representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), and the Papua Mountains Provincial Government were also present. Discussions at the forum covered coordination with relevant local governments, land status resolution, housing types, and the construction budget.
